About me:
First, my name. It's an unsual one, so I ought to tell you how to pronounce it. The stress is on the second syllable, and my last name is pronounced "Veets". My friends call me Anel (ah-NELL).
I started writing about three years ago (2005) - that is, I took it up again. I wrote constantly as a kid and wanted to become a writer. Why did I give it up? Because I never liked anything I'd written an hour after I'd finished it.
But while I no longer did creative writing, I found myself in a line of work (university teaching) that requires one to crank out a hefty amount of scholarly articles and critique the writing of my students and colleagues. I also do literary translations. Once in a great while I might come up with a little original piece or my own, which I'd show to one or two friends and then shelve forever. Finally, I continued to read voraciously, at least a book a week since I entered high school.
So over the years I honed my skills, and when I began writing creatively again I found that, while the quality of my work didn't bowl me over, it didn't embarrass me either. I'm never completely satisfied with what I've done, but at least I don't hate it.
My greatest impetus to return to writing was the Internet. For the first time I could make my work accessible to many readers. I began by posting stories and poems on group sites and as a result hooked up with other amateur authors who critiqued each other's work. Their criticism and encouragement has been invaluable, I can't begin to name them all. (I provide links to their sites.) Almost before I knew it I had things accepted by on-line and hard-copy publishers. This means that some links will take you to a store and you'll have to buy before you read. Sorry about that - contractual obligations, you know - but many selections from them appear among the flashfics, and most of the books are reasonably priced. You'll find a lot of my stuff on other sites. Click on the "Links" link to the left. But of course, just about everything there you'll find right here.
What are my stories like? Well, that varies. You won't find much in the way of standard romance, though some are, and I tend to write open, as opposed to happy, endings,but I try to make an intersting storyline and create 3-dimensional, multi-layered characters. You'll find issues of interest to gay men and women, humor, fantasy, musings, character portraits, what I like to call "wisom literature", and a lot more. And of course they're almost all erotic.
Why erotica? I suppose I must have had sex on my mind at the time I began writing. I was lonely and more than a little sex-starved. Circumstances kept my lover and me from seeing each other for nearly half a year. I just sort of took it from there. My early work was very graphic. Pretty much everything I write is fairly explicit, but my style and content have toned down considerably. In the long run I may well turn to other subjects that have nothing to do with sex, but for the time being I seem to have found my niche.
